Pressing guide

Pressing instructions

Follow these steps for a smooth, durable press. Treat the settings as starting points: every press, film and fabric is a little different, so adjust to your own press conditions and test on a scrap first.

  1. Prep the garment

Start with a clean garment laid flat on the press.

  2. Pre-press 5-10 seconds

This removes wrinkles and, most importantly, moisture. Trapped moisture is bad for DTF.

  3. Press 10 seconds

300°F (149°C) with high pressure. Thicker garments need more pressure than a basic t-shirt.

  4. Polyester: lower heat

For polyester garments, 280°F (138°C) is recommended.

  5. Peel

Hot peel works when the press is done correctly. Peel in a single fast motion at a low angle. Cold peel is also fine if you prefer it.

  6. Final press 5 seconds

Press once more, covered, to lock the print into the fabric.

  7. Let it cool

Do not stretch or tug on the print right after pressing. Give it time to cool down.

Special fabrics: 100% acrylic

Items like beanies made from 100% acrylic must be pressed at low pressure, because high pressure will flatten the fabric. Adjust to your own press conditions, and test on a scrap or a hidden spot first.

Use a cover sheet

We recommend a cover sheet when pressing. Use the kind you prefer, such as parchment paper or a Teflon sheet.

Washing and care

Pass these on to your customers.

  • Wait at least 24 hours before the first wash
  • Turn the garment inside out before washing
  • Wash in cold or warm water, never hot, with a mild detergent
  • Hang dry, or tumble dry on low heat
  • No bleach or fabric softener
  • Do not iron directly on the print

Press with confidence

Start with a clean file, and your transfers will press clean.
